The Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp. (EDC) said it has helped 120 businesses start up or expand in the first six months of 2018.

The organization issued a mid-year report on Sept. 5, noting that its investments were expected to create 336 jobs in the community, while the organization's tourism division generated more than $2.5 million in direct visitor spending.

Highlights include helping 15 companies grow under the group's business retention and expansion program, with the expansion projects totalling more than $35 million and expecting to create 211 jobs.
