Supreme Court's take on terrorism.

The Supreme Court of Canada recently heard a deportation order appeal in a case that began in 1995 but became its first chance to discuss issues of national security and terrorism in light of the Canadian government's new laws in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11in the US. The Supreme Court decided in an unanimous decision that refugee claimants can be deported to their homelands even if they face the possibility of torture there if there are compelling reasons to believe that the claimant is a serious security risk to Canada. The Court wrote "The term `danger to the security of Canada' in deportation legislation must be given a fair, large, and liberal interpretation in accordance with international norms...
