October 9, 2008 (Toronto, ON) - Bennett Jones LLP, already recognized both in Canada and internationally as a preeminent climate change and emissions trading law firm, today welcomed Andrei Marcu to the firm as Senior Climate Change and Emissions Trading Advisor. Mr. Marcu was formerly President and CEO of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA) and recently the Chief Executive Officer of the BlueNext Environmental Exchange.
Mr. Marcu's deep knowledge of both policy and practical issues relating to emissions trading is recognized around the world. He will work with the firm's clients in Canada and abroad, and bring to bear his insights from his long career in the carbon/emissions trading business.
Mr. Marcu was successful in building IETA from 1999 to 2007 as a respected business voice advocating the adoption of emissions trading to harness market mechanisms to achieve greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. From its modest beginning, IETA evolved to encompass approximately 180 businesses around the world, including many major oil and gas, electricity, manufacturing and financial service companies. He was previously the manager of corporate initiatives at the United Nations Development Program for two years, after a number of years at Ontario Hydro in Toronto.
