WORKERS’ COMPENSATION
Workers’ compensation schemes are in operation in every province in order to compensate
injured workers without the necessity of entering into civil litigation to sue for recompense.
Not only would litigation be diff‌icult for many workers, the common law would often fail to
recognize a head under which claimants could sue. This is an area of provincial jurisdiction
and there are workers’ compensation acts in all provinces (slightly different titles are used
in Newfoundland and Labrador and Ontario). Related topics: EMPLOYMENT LAW, INSUR-
ANCE LAW, LABOUR LAW, OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY, TORTS.
ACCIDENTS DU TRAVAIL ET MALADIES
PROFESSIONELLES
Ce domaine relève globalement de la sécurité sociale. Il touche le cas particulier des acci-
dents survenus sur les lieux ou à cause du travail. Les grands traités du TRAVAIL abordent ces
questions.
