College, Wahgoshig strike gold with training program.

Northern College, Primero Mining and Wahgoshig First Nation announced in July that they were collectively "delighted" in the partnership that's provided on-the-job training opportunities in mining for Indigenous people.

The partnership will see two new deliveries of the program at Primero's Black Fox Complex, located just outside of Matheson, with curriculum and instructors provided by the college.

"Building upon the success from the first two intakes, we are very fortunate to be able to offer two more intakes of this innovative training opportunity for local Indigenous learners," said Christine Heavens, the college's executive director of community, business development and employment services. "Our partnership with Primero and Wahgoshig First Nation reflects our commitment to providing innovative education and training opportunities for Indigenous learners."

The program is tailored to Indigenous | learners and covers the knowledge and skills required to work in an underground mine.
