A Saskatchewan judge has issued a ruling on the controversial subject of the adoption of Aboriginal children by non-Aboriginal families. In a case involving five children from one band, Justice Ryan-Froslie of the Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench ruled that the children's Charter rights to security of the person and equal treatment under the law were infringed by the Department of Community Resources and Employment's policy that Aboriginal children cannot be adopted without the consent of their band and the band's child services agency.
