ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Denis Le May, B.A., B.Ph., LL.B., L.L.M., M.L.S., is a member of the Bar of Québec and Senior Reference Librarian
at the Law Library of Université Laval in Quebec City, where he has also taught as a Lecturer in Law at the Faculté de
droit. He has written widely, in both French and English, on legal research methodology, including Les références essen-
tielles en droit québécois, La recherche documentaire en droit, Méthodologie du travail juridique, and Le Code civil du
Québec en tableaux synoptiques, all published in hard copy and updated on the web. In addition, he wrote the chapters
on Researching Quebec Law and Researching French Law contained in D.T. MacEllven’s Legal Research Handbook,
5th ed. He maintains two electronic bulletins on legal documentation and legal news on his law library website. A past
president of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries, Le May was the recipient of that organization’s Denis Marshall
Award for Excellence in Law Librarianship in 2003.
