ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jamie Benid ickson, Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa, teaches En-
vironmental Law, Administrative Law, Water Law, and L egal Hi story.
He is the author of The Culture of Flushing: A Social and Legal History
of Sewage (UBC Press, 20 07). His previous publications include The
Temagami Experience: Recreation, Resources and Aboriginal Rights in the
Northern Ontario Wilderness (University of Toronto Pres s, 1989), Get-
ting the Green Light: Environmental Regulation and Investment in Canad a
(C.D. Howe Institute, 1994), and Idleness, Water, and A Canoe: Ref‌lections
on Paddling for Pleasure (University of Toronto Press, 1997). In 2004 he
was appointed Director of the IUCN Academy of Environmental L aw.
