ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Patrick Monahan is Deputy Attorney General of Ontario and a Profes-
sor of Law (on leave) from Osgoode Hall Law School of York Univer-
sity, where he served as Dean from 2003–2009. He also served as Vice
President Academic and Provost of York University from 2009–2012.
He has written widely on constitutional and public policy issues and
was awarded the David Mundell Medal for excellence in legal writing
in 2008.
Byron Shaw is an associate in the litigation group at McCarthy Tétrault
LLP in Toronto. He has a general litigation practice that includes corpor-
ate and commercial litigation, and medical defence work for physicians
and the Canadian Medical Protective Association. He has appeared
before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Court of Ap-
peal, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme
Court of Canada.
Mr. Shaw received his BA (Hons) in economics and his LLB from
the University of British Columbia. He has published in the areas of
constitutional law, conf‌lict of laws, administrative law, and private law.
