North Bay's Aerospace Centre is not the only growing hub of activity at Jack Garland Airport. Construction is underway on a new $6-million passenger terminal, and construction is. scheduled to start on Canadore College's new $12.5-million Aerospace Campus this spring.

The new 1,400 square-metre terminal being built by Tribury Construction of Sudbury is scheduled to open in July. It win be a single-level terminal for arrival and departure and will be accessible to the handicapped. It replaces the current three-storey facility built about 45 years ago.

The new facility comes as a result of studies predicting passenger travel will double during the next decade 2 Passenger traffic has already increased from 70,000 several years ago to 100,000 in 1999, and the final total for 2000 is expected to top that, North Bay officials say. The airport is expected to show a profit this year.

Growth at the Aerospace Centre and the completion of the Aerospace Campus is expected to result in heavy air traffic as well.
