Algoma University has hired Dr. Craig Chamberlin as its new president, effective July 1.

Chamberlin was elected at the March 31 Board of Governors meeting following a 10-month search for a new president Outgoing president Richard Myers announced he would not be seeking a renewal of his five-year term.

Chamberlin comes from the University of Regina, and the Board of Governors said his excellent interpersonal skills were among the characteristics that set him apart from other candidates.

"He has shown himself to be a relationship builder with students, faculty, staff and community partners throughout his career," board chair Armando Plastino said in a release. "We know Craig will be a superb president, and expect he will be instrumental in continuing to establish Algoma University's reputation for excellence in undergraduate education."
