T-Bay council gives thumbs up to development proposal

A waterfront development proposal of hotel and condos from a construction consortium led by Man-Shield Development was unanimously endorsed by Thunder Bay city council.

The consortium, which includes Laureate Developments and The Resolve Group, made its pitch for Prince's Arthur Landing at the city's Committee of the Whole meeting, Sept.4

The $60-million development calls for a seven-story hotel, two condo buildings of a combined 104 units, an indoor water park and a market square. The former CN passenger station will be converted into a spa and restaurant.

Man-Shield's proposal is part of a larger $126-million massive makeover to reshape the former Port Arthur waterfront on the city's north end over the next five years. Some local citizens and prominent business people have sharply criticized the plan for its inclusion of condos and the site location for the hotel.
