When one opens a newspaper as of late, there is one after another report out about the obesity epidemic our nation, continent, and indeed, an ever-growing number of our global neighbours are encountering or will be faced with in the not so distant future. This has profound implications for the health, not of small segments of the population, but of huge numbers of individuals and their communities. As many approaches are being tried, considered and studied, the law as a tool is one of the methods already in use and under advisement for greater service in this area. We have recently been advised that one of our Research Associates, Dr. Barbara von Tigerstrom from the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan and Professor Timothy Caulfield, our Research Director, have been awarded a CIHR grant entitled, "Use of Legal Interventions to Address Environmental Factors Implicated in the Obesity Epidemic: The Role of Law as a Public Health Tool".

Fortunate as we are to be active in this research arena of health law, we often have the good fortune to collaborate and share findings with others working in the field. This edition of the Health Law Review comes out of two such collaborations. It includes articles that summarize research presented at two events held in the fall of 2005.
