Canada passes new legislation respecting crimes against humanity.

Bill C-19, the Crimes against Humanity Act, was passed and given Royal Assent in June 2000. This Act will do two things: first, it provides the legal framework for Canada to work with the International Criminal Court (ICC) agreed to in the international Rome Statute.

Second, this new Canadian act will improve our ability to prosecute and punish persons accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
