Process an attempt to diversify the economy

The first phase of a strategic planning exercise aimed at increasing economic and social development in Timmins is complete and the city is ready to act.

The initial phase closely examined a variety of community sectors including agriculture, forestry, mining, tourism, education, small business, labour and First Nations to identify existing economic and social problems and share ideas surrounding possible community-sponsored solutions.

The exercise included the creation of public focus groups targeting each identified sector.

A cross-section of community representatives took part in brainstorming sessions.

The strategic planning initiative is being funded by a variety of public and private interests including the City of Timmins, Human Resources and Development Canada, Northern Telephone, College Boreal, the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, FedNor, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce and Northern College.
