Law Commission of Canada launches essay competition.

The Law Commission of Canada has launched the first annual Roderick A. Macdonald high school essay competition under the theme "What is a Crime?"

"The Law Commission is challenging youth to write about why some behaviours are considered a crime while others are not," said Nathalie Des Rosiers, President of the Commission. "Students can illustrate their answers using issues such as prostitution, drugs, euthanasia, or gambling, and indicating how they would reform our existing laws."

Any student in the final two years of high school and taking a law or social science course is eligible to enter the contest that ends June 15, 2002. Cash prizes to be won are $500 for the first prize, $350 for the second prize, and $200 for the third...
