Lorne D. Bert rand is the senior research a ssociate for the Canadian Re-
search Inst itute for Law and the Family (CRI LF). Dr. Bertrand obta ined his
BA (First Class Honours), MA (with Distinction), and PhD degrees in Social
Psychology from Carleton University in Oawa. Prior to com ing to CRIL F
in , he completed a three-year postdoctora l fellowship in the Psychology
Department at the Un iversity of Calgary, followe d by research positions at
Calgar y Health Services a nd the Alberta Lun g Association.
Michelle I. Bert rand is a PhD candidate in Socia l-Personality Psychol-
ogy at Queen’s Universit y and has earned her MA in the same program.
Her research, in the area of psychology and l aw, has i ncluded testing t he ef-
fectiveness of new l ineup present ation methods , sur veying Canadian and
America n police ocers on their identication procedu res, and ex amining
methodological iss ues in psychology and law rese arch. She has held scholar-
ships from the Socia l Sciences and Humanities Rese arch Council of Canada
during her M A and PhD, as well as an Ontar io Graduate Scholarship duri ng
her PhD. She has artic les in refereed journals as both  rst and co-author, has
presented a talk at a conference for the Society for Applied Research in Mem-
ory and Cog nition, and had multiple poster presentations at conferences for
the American Psychology-Law Society, t he Canadi an Psychologic al As so-
ciation, and the A merican Psychological A ssociation.
