Design recognition for Thunder Bay waterfront.

Brook McIlroy Inc. and its Prince Arthur's Landing on Thunder Bay's waterfront was one of 10 winners of a 2016 Design Excellence as selected by the Ontario Association of Architects.

The award winners, released April 4, highlight Ontario's talent in architectural innovation and expertise.

The 10 winners, selected from close to 200 submissions, exemplify outstanding practise in creativity, context, sustainability, good design, good business and legacy.

Completed in 2012, the multimillion-dollar waterfront renovation on the city's north end paid homage to its rich history in marine and rail shipping, its fur trading past and its place as an ancestral home for many Aboriginal groups.

The judges acknowledged its transformation from an underutilized park into a year-round community destination. The project incorporated a range of new buildings, landscapes and public art whose design evolved from a series of public workshops...
