Mining heritage committee to unveil sculpture.

September 2001 marks the completion of a major eight-year project in Sudbury. The official unveiling of the city's mining heritage sculpture takes place on Sept. 15 in Bell Park in the city.

Charlie Graham, chairman of the Sudhury Mining Heritage Committee calls the sculpture a "lasting tribute to mining and to those who helped share in a rich legacy."

In December 2000, the Sudbury Mining Heritage Committee announced major financial support from the Canada Millenium Partnership Program towards the project. A total of $300,000 has been raised for the project, thanks to the support of businesses, government agencies and organizations.

Created by world-renowned Canadian sculptor Timothy Schmalz, the 15-foot bronze structure epitomizes the mining industry's contributions to Greater Sudbury, Canada and the world.
