Bella Yellow Horn was charged under the Alberta Motor Vehicle Administration Act with driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle. She claimed that as a member of the Independent Sovereign Blackfoot Nation, she was not a Canadian and did not recognize Canadian law. Judge R. Jacobsen of the Alberta Provincial Court issued a thorough judgment that looked at issues of constitutional and aboriginal treaty law as well as human rights and social justice issues.
