The province is working to introduce minimum qualifications for registered home inspectors as part of a broader consumer protection initiative.

This fall, Ontario will consult with home inspector associations, consumers, representatives from the real estate sector and other industry stakeholders on mandatory minimum qualifications for home inspectors.

"Raising the standards for home inspectors will help all home buyers as well as those selling their houses by creating a more level playing field where greater transparency helps inform one of the most important purchases of an individual's life," said David Orazietti, the MPP for Sault Ste. Marie, in a news release.

Currently, anyone can offer home inspection services in Ontario, but only registered members of the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors...
