Lakehead University president steps down.

After seven and a half years, Lakehead University president and vice-chancellor Brian Stevenson announced he is resigning.

His last day on the Thunder Bay campus is Dec. 31.

Lakehead's board of governors was notified of his decision at its monthly meeting on April 27.

In an April 28 news release, chair David Tamblyn accepted Stevenson's decision with regrets and praised him for a string of accomplishments during his tenure, including the establishment of a law school, centres of excellence in entrepreneurship and innovation, and sustainable mining and exploration.

Lakehead is regarded as one of the top research universities and has Top 10 status with many national publications.

"From the moment Dr. Stevenson was appointed Lakehead's president, his vision and leadership have only served to enhance and improve the quality of our University," said Tamblyn.
