Law Day competition winners visit Ottawa.

The Canadian Superior Courts Judges Association (CSCJA) was delighted to participate in Law Day 2007, celebrating 25 years since the signing of Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms. In keeping with the Association mandate to seek to achieve a better public understanding of the role of the judiciary in the administration of justice, the Public Education Committee sponsored a competition directed to high school students of civics, social studies and law and highlighting its multimedia educational program, Try Judging TM( www.tryjudging.ca).

Students were invited to explain in a creative format (essay, poem, poster) the role of a judge in Canada. The submissions were judged by three Superior Court judges in Ottawa, Justice Doug Rutherford, Justice Charles Hackland and Justice Maria Linhares de Sousa. The winners were announced on Law Day, April 17, 2007 and invited to Ottawa for a visit to the Supreme Court, Parliament, the Museum of Civilization and dinner with the Chief Justice of Canada.
