Elizabeth Fry Legal Clinic Program funded in Edmonton.

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton presently coordinates a Legal Clinic Program at the Edmonton Institution for Women. Many of the Institute's women seek legal assistance on a variety of issues ranging from criminal to family and civil matters. There is a current roster of eight lawyers who engage in private sessions with these women.

The United Way granted funding to the Elizabeth Fry Society in 1998 to develop this legal clinic pilot project. The first session occurred in April 1999. This initial funding was for one session per month. The Alberta Law Foundation has funded the clinic as a program for the year 2000 - 2001, allowing the program to expand to two sessions per month.
