Island manufacturing: Little Current secures steel component plant.

Little Current is home to a new steel roll-forming plant that will create a dozen jobs in the Manitoulin Island community.

The facility, constructed by Kilganan Group Ltd., is designed to create steel components such as studs and trusses for the residential home-building industry and will service markets across the North. Kilganan received $125,000 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC) for the purchase of equipment.

"We are very pleased with the support we received from the NOHFC and in particular with the guidance and support of their staff," Kilganan president Byron Turner said in a news release. "This equipment will result in 12 new jobs being created in Northern Ontario and enable us to supply a quality steel building product. This also positions our company as the only light gauge steel manufacturer in the North."
