Promotional tool intended to target business travellers passing through airport

A new marketing tool unveiled by Development Thunder Bay at the city's airport is a unique promotional vehicle that offers business clients and other passengers passing through the airport a quick glance at what Thunder Bay is all about, city officials say.

The airport investment mobile, unveiled on Nov. 30, hangs from the ceiling in the centre of the airport terminal, strategically placed between the airport's two escalators.

It stretches nearly four metres in width and measures two metres high; the graphics displayed on the mobile's panels include full-color collages of activities in the Thunder Bay economy, activities such as forestry, research, development and education.

Development Thunder Bay Manager Nancy Creighton says she is particularly pleased with the marketing mobile and the impression it will give to people who catch a glimpse of it.

"This mobile is just one more element of our overall marketing program and family of tools," Creighton says, noting that Development Thunder Bay also distributes brochures and has an established data base for direct-mail marketing.

Additionally, Development Thunder Bay works with the Northwest Midwest Alliance - a group dedicated to seeking out new business opportunities in the U.S. Midwest - which has set up an office in Minneapolis, Minn.

"We have a number of advertising venues," Creighton says. "This is a little more impressive; it's more attention-grabbing than a poster."
