Abitibi continues cutting its excess high-cost newsprint capacity. The company recently released its annual report for 2000, which shows net sales of $5.677 billion and an operating-profit of $1.004 billion. But the company, the fifth-largest lumber producer in eastern Canada, is also looking at closing mills and shutting down paper machines as a part of its commitment to eliminate 400,000 tonnes of newsprint capacity by the end of the year.
