Northerners are in for a treat when the Northern Ontario Business Awards, with the support of Human Resources Development Canada, presents the Getting Back to Basics conference in Timmins on Oct. 18. The conference will feature world-renowned speakers James Barnes, Edward Greenspon and Tania Carriere who will talk about customer loyalty, youth migration and employee retention, respectively. Acclaimed comedian, Steve Cotter, will entertain the lunch crowd with a humorous, yet critical, discussion on stress and burnout in the workplace.

"Getting Back to Basics is a conference that has caught the imagination of these experts and inspired them to travel to Timmins", says Cathy Nadjiwon, co-chair of the event. "We encourage the northern business community to listen, learn and participate in the dialogue on Oct. 18 at the Centre culturel La Ronde."

James Barnes is an internationally acclaimed expert in marketing strategy. He co-founded Omnifacts Research, one of the world's leading marketing research firms, and is executive vicepresident of The Bristol Group, an integrated marketing communications and information consultancy with clients throughout North America and Europe. Barnes is one of the leading theorists and practitioners in the field of customer relationship marketing. His approach demonstrates to companies the key drivers of successful customer relationships, and the underlying techniques and processes that must be in place to use these drivers.

Edward Greenspon is a well-known journalist and media personality and executive news editor of the Globe and Mail.
