Nordmin Engineering launches contracting company: Thunder Bay firm ready to take on global capital projects.

Nordmin Engineering is spinning off a construction company to dive more deeply into the mining and industrial sector.

The Thunder Bay-headquartered engineering firm announced the creation of Nordmin Constructors in a Feb. 6 news release.

The new company will be led by 25-year mining veteran Micheal Mayhew, Nordmin's Sudbury-based manager of mining services, who had previously been operations vice-president with AMC Contractors and Dumas Mining. Their focus will be on providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) solutions to major capital projects across North America and the world.

In the release, Nordmin said they already had been providing those services and decided to expand those efforts to offer full construction management and general contracting services.

The contracting outfit will act as a sister company to the engineering firm.

"Nordmin Engineering Ltd. has provided EPC and EPCM services for the last many years, stopping short of operating as a full general contractor," said Chris Dougherty, Nordmin Group chairman, in a statement.
