The month starts here: Northerners honoured in Canadian Mining Hall of Fame.

The men who put Timmins on the map were enshrined in the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame during its 22nd annual induction ceremony, held Jan. 14 at Toronto's Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Included among these new inductees are Benny Hollinger, Sandy McIntyre and Jack Wilson, who in 1909 discovered the gold deposits that would become the world-famous Hollinger, McIntyre and Dome mines.

In turn, these would lead to the foundation of what would eventually become the City of Timmins, which is celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the start-up of production at the three mines.

The Hall of Fame also inducted the Timmins-born Graham Farquharson, president of Toronto-based Strathcona Mineral Services and one of the mining industry's most respected consultants.
