Greenpeace International and Greenpeace Canada decided to stage a protest against logging on Roderick Island, BC. The purpose of the protest was to highlight and bring to the attention of the international community the kind of damage they claimed the logging company, Western Forest Products Ltd., was doing to the rainforest on the west coast of BC: damage they alleged could destroy the forest within a decade. A group of loggers who had contracts with Western were unable to proceed with their work for a period of 10 days and sued Greenpeace for the tort of interference with their contracts, and damages for loss of income.
