New operating officer at North American Palladium.

North American Palladium has named James Gallagher as its new chief operating officer.

With more than 30 years in the mining industry, Gallagher previously served as global director of mining with Hatch Engineering. He also worked for Falconbridge in Northern Ontario for 24 years and holds a mining engineering degree from Laurentian University in Sudbury.

"Jim's strong expertise in both mining operations and development, combined with his extensive knowledge of the mine contracting and consulting industry, yields a unique ability to deliver mine projects from concept through to steady state operations," said NAP president and CEO Phil du Toit in a Sept. 4 statement.

The company is undergoing expansion at its Lac des Iles mine, northwest of Thunder Bay. "I am very pleased to be joining North American Palladium at this exciting juncture of the company's growth phase," said Gallagher. "I look forward to working with the team to help the company achieve the full potential of the world-class ore body at Lac des Iles."
