Pioneer Construction of Sudbury was the winning bidder in the first of a series of contracts for the eventual four-laning of Highway 69 between Sudbury and Parry Sound.

Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci's office made the announcement in Sudbury on Dec. 17.

Pioneer submitted the lowest bid at a value of "just over $5 million," according to a news release.

The project involves the construction of a new underpass and 700 metres of new highway along the Old Wanup Road, where it will cross the new Highway 69 alignment. This will allow the Old Wanup Road to remain open to traffic...
