Consisting of the communities of Haileybury, New Liskeard and Dymond Township, Temiskaming Shores serves as an economic service hub.

Located geographically at the centre of northeastern Ontario, Temiskaming Shores is situated between the major cities of North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins. "That's our unique selling point," said 3s-mes Franks, economic development and funding co-orainator for Temiskaming Shores. "We are far enough from major centres that we've been able to grow offering the services to the small surrounding communities that are too distant to travel."

Their close proximity to small communities over the Quebec border means Temiskaming Shores' retail sector is thriving.

The municipality has witnessed several retail expansions and the arrival of national chains such as a larger Wal-Mart Superstore, a Staples Business Depot, a Holiday Inn Express and a Toyota dealership. Boston Pizza and A&W have expressed interest.

The expansion of the Dymond Industrial park is complete. Union Gas is now installing gas and hydro lines to the 25-lot area. Lots vary in size from two acres to 30.

"No sales to this date, but we have some interest," said Franks. "Up to this point, it hasn't been ready to go, so we're hopeful to see sales in the near future."
