A youth in Calgary pled guilty to ten offences: three charges of sexual assault with a weapon, two charges of assault with the use of a weapon, four robbery convictions, and one conviction for attempted sexual assault. He was a young offender at the time of the offences but was almost 19 at the time of sentencing. The Crown asked for a long-term offender designation and Judge Carruthers of the Provincial Court of Alberta agreed to make the declaration under the Criminal Code and the Youth Criminal Justice Act. In addition, Judge Carruthers sentenced him to six years in a federal penitentiary where he can obtain treatment, and ordered the following:
