Thunder Bay fined for safety mishap at landfill.

The City of Thunder Bay and a supervisor were fined a combined $52,000 in an Ontario Court of Justice after a city worker was injured at the city's landfill site.

The fines came following guilty pleas in connection with a July 28, 2005 incident at the landfill during which a pick-up truck backed into a worker walking nearby causing a leg injury.

The court heard that the truck's operator had not done a vehicle check prior to operating it and that its back-up signal was not working.
