Summary:
An inmate at a federal penitentiary sued the federal Crown for damages, alleging assault and battery, negligence, unlawful confinement and cruel and unusual punishment.
The Federal Court of Canada, Trial Division, allowed the action and assessed damages accordingly, including a $10,000 award of exemplary damages against the Crown.
