ABOUT THE AUTHOR
M.H. Ogilvie i s Professor of Law a nd Chancellor’s Profe ssor at Carleton
University in Ottawa, and a member of the Bar s of Ontario and Nova
Scotia. Dr. Ogilvie is a gr aduate of Trinity College, Toronto, the Uni-
versity of Oxford, and Dalhousie University, and has been a Visiting
Scholar at the Universities of Edinburgh, Emory, Oxford, and Toronto,
and twice at Princeton Theological Semin ary. She was elected a Fellow
of the Royal Society of Canada in 1993; awarded the David W. Mundell
Medal in 1996, the degree of D.D.(h.c.) by The Presbyterian College,
Montreal, in 1998, the Law Society Medal in 2001, and the degree of
LL.D. (h.c.) by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2008; and was the
f‌irst Cha ncellor’s Profe ssor appointed at Carleton Unive rsity in 2002.
She was inducted into the Order of Ontario in 20 08. Dr. Ogilvie is the
author of numerous articles on religious institutions law and has been
cited frequently by Canadi an appellate courts as a legal authority in the
f‌ield. Dr. Ogilvie is also frequently consulted by a variety of religious
institutions in C anada on legal matters.
