Another ASAC conference has come and gone and
this year’s meeting in Ottawa was surely one of the best,
with apparent record attendance. Congratulations to all
the “Best Paper” award winners; please do consider
CJAS as a viable outlet for your work! It was with
considerable pleasure that I made presentations at the
conference for the two papers that shared the Verity
International Award for Overall Outstanding Paper
in Management published in CJAS in 2007. As men-
tioned in my June editorial, winning authors were: Tania
Saba (University of Montréal), Mathieu Blouin (Univer-
sity of Montréal), Louise Lemire (Université de Quebéc)
for their paper entitled Modalités de travail à temps
plein ou partiel et son inf‌l uence sur les attitudes et com-
portements au travail: L’effet médiateur de la violation
du contrat (Volume 23, number 4); and Ali Danisman
(Cukurova University, Turkey), C.R. Hinings (Univer-
sity of Alberta) and Trevor Slack (University
of Alberta) for their paper entitled Integration and
Differentiation in Institutional Values: An Empirical
Investigation in the Field of Canadian National
Sport Organizations (Volume 23, number 4). I thank this
year’s Verity Award adjudication committee, which
consisted of Stéphane Coté (Rotman School of Busi-
ness), Ann Langley (HEC Montréal) and Jean McGuire
(Louisiana State University). Of course, I extend my
gratitude to Verity International for their sponsorship of
this award. One of my most rewarding experiences as
Editor-in-Chief of the journal is sharing in these celebra-
tions of excellence.
I announced in my March 2007 editorial that we
have entered into a ten year partnership with Wiley &
Sons. Since then, Wiley & Sons purchased Blackwell,
and so our partnership is more precisely with Wiley-
Blackwell. All articles published in CJAS will be acces-
sible in hard print and from Wiley InterScience (www.
interscience.wiley.com). Papers will appear here even
before they appear in hard print, under their Early View
feature.
I have worked closely with Wiley-Blackwell in
evolving a policy for printing manuscripts submitted in
French accessible in the two off‌i cial languages of Canada
– both French and English. Authors submitting in French
will have their papers reviewed and adjudicated in
French. These manuscripts will be translated into English,
with CJAS absorbing the cost of this translation. Both
the French and English copies of the paper will be posted
on Wiley InterScience. Authors will then decide whether
they wish to have the hard-copy appear in French or in
English. Our decision to make the French manuscripts
accessible in English is motivated by a strong desire to
make the papers more widely accessible and thereby
enhance their citation impact. An impact analysis of all
papers published in CJAS clearly shows that French
manuscripts are virtually uncited; with English papers
receiving signif‌i cantly more citations. I do not believe
that this difference in citation rates ref‌l ects differences in
the scholarly contributions of the papers. Rather, it is
much more likely that French papers reach a much
smaller audience. I sincerely believe that these latest
changes will – over the longer term – be of tremendous
benef‌i t to both the journal and its authors. I do hope you
agree, as I have gone to great lengths to do what
I believe to be in the best interest of all stakeholders
(authors, subscribes, the ASAC Executive, and
Wiley-Blackwell).
In the coming months you can look forward to a
change in the cover of the journal, which will entail a
new CJAS logo, a new website, and a new electronic
infrastructure for accepting submissions, assigning manu-
scripts to reviewers, and enabling authors to track the
progress of their papers through the review cycle.
I am constantly looking for ways to increase the
international reach and overall stature of CJAS and
welcome your ideas. You may send your comments to
