Summary:
A father applied for a decrease in his support payments to his two children. The mother applied for an increase in the payments.
The Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench ordered the father to increase the payments from $350 per month to $485 per month per child.
Family Law - Topic 2348
Maintenance of children - Allocation between mother and father - The Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench stated that where a father earns about 80% of the combined income of his former wife and himself, then he should pay that proportion of the cost of supporting his children (see paragraph 10).
Family Law - Topic 2358.1
Maintenance of children - Payments, to whom - A father applied for an order that his child support payments be paid directly to his children - The Saskatchewan Court of Queen's Bench refused to make such an order - The court stated that the purpose of child support is to assist the custodial parent to provide for the child's needs, not to provide the child with money to spend as the child chooses (see paragraph 3).
