An unreported order of Savoie, J., of the Court of Queen's Bench, Family Division, awarded permanent guardianship of a child to the Minister of Health and Community Services. G.J., the child's mother, appealed.

The New Brunswick Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal.

Public trustee or guardian - Appointment - Child in need of protection - Considerations and best interests of child - Because of a difficult childhood, the psychological resources and parental skills of the mother of a child born on October 18, 1983, were so affected that the Minister of Health and Community Services of New Brunswick applied for permanent guardianship of the child - Furthermore, the mother had lived with a violent man - The Minister's application was granted at trial and confirmed on appeal - The New Brunswick Court of Appeal discussed the test of the best interests of the child in the light of the facts of the case and relevant authorities.
