One of my colleagues argues that an advantage of teaching in this f‌ield
is that one can use the same exam problem from year to year, because
the correct answer keeps changing. The developments in the three years
since the second edition of this book appear give support to his claim.
No chapter is unaffected.
These effects include signif‌icant new decisions with regard to arbi-
trary detention, search and seizure (particularly in relation to reasonable
expectation of privacy and to searches relating to electronic devices),
general warrants, bail, jury selection, and other areas. Some of these de-
velopments have brought welcome clarity to areas of law that have long
needed it, while others seem to have injected ambiguity where it did
not seem to exist before. Consideration in this third edition of changes
to the caselaw and to the Criminal Code is current to December 2015.
