Juror
Eligibility
Provisions
Qualifications
as 2.
Subject
to the
exemptions
and
disqualifications
here-
jurors
inafter
mentioned,
a
resident
of
Alberta
who is
(a)
at
least
18
years
of
age,
and
(b)
a
Canadian citizen
or
natural
born
British subject,
is
qualified
and
liable
to
serve
as a
juror
in all
civil
and
criminal cases tried
by a
jury
in the
judicial
district
in
which
he
resides.
Exemption
from
3. A
person otherwise
qualified
and
liable
to
serve
as a
service
on
jury
juror whose name appears
on a
current
jury list
may if
over
the age of 60
years claim exemption from service
on a
jury,
and if the
exemption
is
claimed,
he
shall
be
excused
from
serving
on a
jury.
Exemptions
4. The
following persons
are
exempt
from
being returned
and
from
serving
as
common jurors:
(a)
members
of the
Privy
Council,
or of the
Senate,
or
of
the
House
of
Commons, Canada;

(b)
members
of the
Legislative Assembly
and the
offic-
ers
thereof;
(c)
all
salaried
officials
and
employees
of the
Govern-
ments
of
Canada
and
Alberta;
(d)
mayors, reeves, councillors, salaried
officials
and
employees
of a
municipality;
(e)
officers
of a
court
of
justice, whether
of
general
or
local jurisdiction, including every
sheriff,
sheriff's
officer,
constable
or
bailiff;
(f)
provincial judges
and
justices
of the
peace;
(g)
members
of the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police
force;
(h)
members
of the
police
force
of any
municipality;
(i)
salaried
firemen or
members
of a
voluntary
fire
bri-
gade
of any
municipality;
(j)
professors, masters, teachers
and
other
salaried
officials
or
employees
of any
university, college
or
school;
(k)
clergy
of all
denominations;
(1)
physicians, registered nurses, dental surgeons,
Dominion
and
Alberta land surveyors, chemists
and
druggists
and
apprentices
to
chemists
and
druggists, barristers, solicitors
and
students-at-law
who
are in
good standing
in the
books
of
their
respective corporations;
(m)
editors,
reporters
and
printers
of any
public news-
paper
or
journal;
(n)
licensed ferry-men,
mail
carriers
and
postmasters;
(o)
pilots
in
actual service;
(p)
all
persons liable under
contract
to be
required
in
the
running
of
railway trains
or
buses,
or
liable
to
be
employed
in the
operation
of
telegraph lines
and
telephones;
(q)
millers, where owners
of
mills
or
employees under
contract
are
liable
to be
required
in the
operation
of
mills;
(r)
officers
of the
Canadian Forces when
on
full
pay.
Disqualifications
5. No
person
is
qualified
to
serve
as a
juror
(a)
who has
been convicted
of a
criminal
offence
for
which
he has
been sentenced
to
death
or to a
term
of
imprisonment exceeding
12
months,
or
