Sentence - Aggravated assault - The 18 year old accused was upset that the victim had "got a friend hooked on pills" - The accused and others planned to harm the victim - They called the victim and told him that they wanted to buy drugs - When the victim arrived, the accused struck him in the head with a baseball bat without warning - The victim suffered skull fractures and bleeding and swelling of the brain - He continued to experience cognitive deficits several months later - The accused pled guilty to aggravated assault - He accepted full responsibility for the attack and expressed remorse - He had no prior adult criminal record - There were positive prospects for the accused's rehabilitation - The New Brunswick Provincial Court sentenced the accused to 30 months' federal imprisonment, less 55 days for time spent on remand.
