Summary:

A youth pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to comply with a youth sentence, possession of marihuana, break and enter with intent, obstruction of a peace officer and assaulting a peace officer.

The Saskatchewan Provincial Court, Youth Justice Court, sentenced the youth to six months' deferred custody and supervision.

Sentence - Break and enter - A 14 year old youth pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to comply with a youth sentence, possession of marihuana, break and enter with intent, obstruction of a peace officer (provided false name) and assaulting a peace officer (elbowed an officer in the head during booking) - The offences occurred while the youth was on probation for several earlier offences - The youth was a person with high needs and high risks - He had a record that started when he was 12 - He had been involved with a gang since age seven and had been using drugs and alcohol since then - He dropped out of school after grade one - His family was not equipped to deal with the extreme challenges that he presented - The youth had been on remand for 51 days - He was diagnosed with significant learning disabilities and behavioural disorders - The Saskatchewan Provincial Court, Youth Justice Court, sentenced the youth to six months' deferred custody and supervision.
