Abstract
This research aims to understand the performance of
purchasing social responsibility (PSR) through moderating
effect of purchasing strategic integration. The results show
that PSR directly inf‌luences purchasing performance, while
the relationship between PSR and purchasing performance
is partially mediated by organizational learning. Moreover,
strategic integration negatively moderates the relationship
between PSR and purchasing performance. This study sug-
gests that the adoption of PSR affects the operations of both
buyers and suppliers in a supply chain that further encour-
age organizational learning and increases purchasing
eff‌iciency. The results also show that organizations may
realize this effect of PSR practices but may focus on other
purchasing practices, which affects purchasing perfor-
mance. Copyright © 2018 ASAC. Published by John Wiley

Copyright © 2018

Introduction
Globalization and outsourcing, along with capability-
driven supply management and emphasis on innovation,
have gained unprecedented importance in recent times and
have led to a heightened dependence on the supplier
(Schoenherr et al., 2012). Another effect of globalization is
that organizations now need to go beyond their own internal
environmental and social aspects and must consider the
entire supplier chain, since it has been demonstrated that
suppliersperformance inf‌luences and affects the buyers
performance (Bacallan, 2000). In the contemporary world,
environmental and social factors and their effects require
organizations to be more considerate (Gończ, Skirke,
Kleizen, & Barber, 2007; Sikdar, 2003). Mattel, a Chinese
toy manufacturer, had to pay large sums of money for
millions of products that were returned because of being
contaminated with lead. Nike encountered many problems
because of employing child labour in China and Indonesia.
Events like these are why a companys sustainability de-
pends heavily on its purchasing and supply management
function in implementing the sustainable supply chain
