CHAPTER
10
VISITORS
AND
PERMIT
HOLDERS
A.
VISITORS
Section
2(1)
of the
Immigration
Act
defines
entry
as
lawful
permission
to
come into Canada
as a
visitor.
The
status
of
visitor
is
defined
in the
same
subsection:
"visitor" means
a
person
who is
lawfully
in
Canada
, or
seeks
to
come
into Canada,
for a
temporary purpose, other than
a
person
who is
(a) a
Canadian citizen,
(b)
a
permanent resident,
(c)
a
person
in
possession
of a
permit,
or
(d)
an
immigrant authorized
to
come into Canada pursuant
to
para-
graph
14(2)O),
23(l)(b)
or32(3)(b).]
Thus,
both terms, although used loosely
in
everyday language, have
a
technical meaning under Canadian immigration law.
1 The
specified paragraphs deal
with
situations
where
the
examination
of an
immigrant
is for
some
reason incomplete
and the
immigrant
is
permitted
to
come
into Canada temporarily,
on
condition that
the
immigrant
be
present
for
examination
at a
later
time.
