ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Ronald C.C. Cuming has taught and researched domestic and inter-
national commercial l aw for over thirty-f‌ive years i ncluding secured
transactions law, sales law, leasing law, debtor-creditor law, insolvency
law, and bankruptcy law. He was the pri ncipal draft sperson for Alberta,
British Columbia, and Saskatchewan in the preparation of Personal
Property Secur ity Acts. This legisl ation provided models for the secured
transact ions l aw for six ot her jur isdictions in Canada. Profess or Cuming
is a technical advisor to World Bank and has been a consultant to t he
Asian Development Bank and other international agencies in the area
of commercial law reform of developing countries. He prepa red draft
secured tran sactions and leasing legislation for countries in E astern Eur-
ope, Africa, the Middle East, and Asi a. He was the origin ator and prin-
cipal consultant to the Inter national Institute for the Unif‌ication Private
Law and the Government of Can ada in the development of the Conve n-
tion on Internat ional Interests in Mobile Equipment, 2001 which will pro-
vide an internationa l regime for secured f‌inanci ng of large aircraft.
Professor Cuming served as chairperson of the Uniform Law Con-
ference Study Committee on Reform of Secured Transactions Actions
Law. He received the University of Saskatchewan Dist inguished Re-
searcher Award in 1998. Recent publications include Personal Property
Security Act ha ndbooks for the western provi nces, which he co-auth-
ored, a handbook on Albania n secured tran sactions law and numerous
reports, article s and book chapters published in Can ada and inter-
nationally.
Catherine Walsh joined the McGill University Faculty of Law in 20 01.
From 1981 to 2001, she was a member of the Law Faculty of t he Univer-
sity of New Brunsw ick. Her principal teach ing and research interests
are in secured transactions law, comparative commercial law, and pri-
vate international law. Professor Walsh is a member of the Internation-
al Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law, a founding member of
the Canadian Conference on Personal Propert y Security Law, and a for-
mer counsel to the Atlantic law f‌irm Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales.
Professor Walsh is the author of numerous reports, ar ticles, and
