Acknowledgments
There are a few individuals and entities to thank for their help in the preparation of this book.
First of all, acknowledgements are owed to the Legal Research Institute at the University of
Manitoba’s Faculty of Law, which provided funding to hire two eager law students, Jocelyn
Ritchot and Robert Marcoux, to assist in the preliminary amassing of materials related to this
project. Thanks and appreciation are extended to Jocelyn and Robert for their enthusiasm and
diligence.
Second, I would like to thank my co-author, Denis Le May, whose patience and under-
standing of my numerous delays and false starts on this project have been limitless. Similarly,
Jeffrey Miller, of Irwin Law, is owed a debt of gratitude for his continued willingness to partake
in this project despite numerous inaccurate assurances that the book’s completion was “just
around the corner.”
Lastly, I posthumously thank my dear friend, Gordon “Pigfoot” Pearson, whose premature
passing in 2007 taught me that life can be unjustly short, and provided inspiration to com-
plete this work in due time. It is to him — and to the memory of our great friendship that I
dedicate this effort.
