OF THE
PROVISIONS
OF
SECTION
27(1)
OF THE
IMMIGRATION
ACT
27(l)(a):
describes permanent residents
who
fall
into
the
inadmis-
sible classes described
in
paragraph
19(l)(c.2),
(d), (e),
(f),
(g),
(k)
or
(I)1;
in
brief, these
are
classes which cover individuals
who can be
connected
to
criminal organizations,
or
who,
it is
believed, will
engage
in
serious crimes.
27(l)(a.l)(i):
describes permanent residents
who
have been con-
victed
of an
offence
outside Canada punishable
by at
least
ten
years'
imprisonment
if
committed within Canada,
unless
the
Minister
is
sat-
isfied
of
rehabilitation
and
that
at
least
five
years have elapsed since
the end of
sentence.
27(l)(a.l)(ii):
describes permanent residents who,
in the
immigra-
tion
officer's
opinion, have,
on the
balance
of
probabilities, commit-
ted an
offence
outside Canada, which
is
punishable
by at
least
ten
years'
imprisonment within Canada, unless
the
Minister
is
satisfied
of
rehabilitation
and at
least
five
years have elapsed since
the
commis-
sion
of the
offence.
